FAQs

What happens during an acupuncture treatment?

  • Prior to your appointment you will receive a health questionnaire and ask for relevant medical information

  • Your initial consultation will be for one and half hours, where we discuss your health history, your journey so far and what you’d like from treatment

  • During your treatment I will feel your pulse and look at your tongue and then you get to have a lovely lie down while I insert the smallest needles. Mostly needles will be inserted and removed straight away, although sometimes you may have about 20 to 25 minutes with the needles in. Either way you can rest, relax deeply and listen to calming music

  • You will not be left alone in the room with the needles in

  • Follow up treatments will be one hour, with a bespoke treatment plan suited to your individual needs

How many treatments do I need?

  • To begin with 5 weekly sessions with a review at the beginning of each session so treatment can be tailored

  • Treatments then become spaced out moving to once every two weeks to once a month depending how you respond to treatment

  • Most patients feel a difference after their first or second treatment and are surprised by the effects acupuncture has on their lives such as sleep, energy and mood

  • Many continue treatment after their initial complaint has improved because they find it helps with their general wellbeing

  • It counts as a form of self care so you can rest, relax and restore from a busy schedule and have some time out for yourself

What should I do before I come for treatment?

  • Have something to eat, a quick snack is absolutely fine

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing if possible

  • Don’t worry about if you’ve shaved your legs

What will I feel and are there any side effects?

  • Sometimes where the needles are placed you can feel heaviness, pressure or sensations, as each person may feel something different

  • Occasionally you may feel a slight sensation as the needle goes in but once it is in it will not hurt and if it does the needle will be removed

  • During treatment many people have a nap feeling a sense of calm and relaxation

  • After treatment, you may feel tired or possibly have a mild headache especially after the first treatment but you will be advised to drink water

  • Many continue feeling a sense of calm and relaxation thereafter
